thesis:
Through time people would harm or kill others as means of revenge, pure hatred towards them, or just for mere pleasure. In the year of 1981 an attempted assassination of the president would take place. The assassination failed, but it did leave the president injured, along with three other men. But out of the men who were shot James S. Brady was left with a bullet lodged between his head. he survived, but was left with permanent brain damage. John Hinckley, took full responsibility for the crime. For reasons unclear many say it's because he did it for a woman he fell in love with, others suspect he did it to show he is devoted to the American-Nazi Club. the actions that took place after the horrific incident included trials, protest, and change. The second amendment came into conflict with the Brady Bill, but thanks to the bill it has successfully stopped rapist, murderers, and other dangerous people from gaing possession to a gun, but even a successful as the bill is the responsibilities given to the average man are abused on a daily with people walking through their neighborhoods with assault rifles on their backs, and school shootings, etc.
rights and responsibilities
Even though we do have the right to posses a fire arm this doesn't mean we should go every where with a gun in our backs pocket, etc.. This also doesn't mean we should have so many weapons that we wouldn't no what to do with them all. In general we shouldn't over abuse the power of having the right to own a weapon. Just like John Hinckley Jr. he was someone who was mentally ill and yet he got possession of a deadly weapon and look what he did. And this is what the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act did, it provides a background check as to who is mature enough to own a weapon and who is to unstable or to violent to imagine what they would do with a handgun.
the second amendment
The 2nd Amendent states that we have the right to bear arms. Specifically it says, "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." this pretty much says that we have the right of self-defense, resistance to oppression, and the civic duty to act in concern in defense of the state. How is this similar to the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act(BHVPA)? Its similar to BHVPA in a way that its an example that people during those days could get a gun no matter what their record was. they could of been killers, homicides, psychopaths, etc., and people would still sell them a gun.
pro's
When the Brady Bill was passed people saw a huge decrease in criminal activity, says NBC's Tom Brokaw,"I would close the gun loophole, because the Brady Bill has worked superbly. It's given us a 35 percent dop in crime and a 31 year low in the homicide rate, and kept a half a million people-felons, fugitives, stalkers, from getting handguns or other forms of deadly weapons." And Sarah Brady, chairwomen of handgun control inc. and James Brady's wife., claimed:
"the new FBI report demonstrates that the significant drop in the homocide rate last year is clearly linked to new efforts at gun tracing by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), the Brady Law, and state anti-gun trafficking initiatives such as Virginia's one-gun-a-month law."

con's
Even though the Brady Bill stops violent people form obtaining a gun it still doent stop people with mental illnesses from getting one. Also Burnett Sterling comments,"When polled, more than 85 percent of America's police chiefs believed that Brady had not prevented a single felon from obtaining a handgun in their jurisdiction." and what the picture says is true the crime rate decreases but now the suicide rate increases aswell. the cheif of police in Virginia states,"When Brady was originally debated, its supporters argued that "if it saves just one life, the inconvenience will be worthwhile." Maybe. But since there are clear cases where Brady has cost innocent lives and no evidence that it has saved even a single life, if anything has to die it probably should be the Brady Bill."
